To Be Quiet

“Changing is what people do when they have no options left.”
― Holly Black, Red Glove

I can’t speak.

The words don’t ever come.
I sit quietly, running through my schedule, following the routine.

I aim to keep it simplistic,
to avoid any arguments.
I share a smile here and there,
and stick to one word phrases
a thumbs up, or nod.

I can’t speak words.
They just won’t come to me.
If I call too much,
I’ll be stricken dumb.

I have been warned about my words,
been told over and over again.

My silence isn’t preferred.
But being silent, is just easier. ( Where I found the beautiful quote before my poem)
