INSOMNIA

I can’t sleep.

I’m thrashing around in a fury.
I can’t get these thoughts to run free.
They’re jumbled and messy.
They have no care of what they cost.

I am tossed about,
like dirty linens by my own body.

The heat in the room is rising too suddenly.
Sweating, I’m cracking the windows, bathing my bare skin with the cool air.

I’m shaking and my breath is coming ragged.
My sight is starting to blur.
There’s a sharp pain
-that creak in my neck just won’t quit.

I grip hard on my pillow and close my eyes.
There’s pain enveloping my body and I’m drowning in it.
Slowly, I’m going.

Going.
Going.
I’m Out.

When I awake I’ll have a new face.
